Oak, J.S., Park, W.Y., Kim, K.H. Effects of proprioceptive neuromuscular exercise on equilibrium sensory function in elderly woman. Exercise Science, 15(1), 87-96, 2006. The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of 16 week proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation training on equilibrium sensory function in elderly woman. Nineteen healthy elderly woman who were 77 years of mean age were recruited in this study. Experimental group(n=7) were involved in 16 week proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation training program for one hour a day on three times per week with exercise ball and elastic band. But control group(n=12) did not participated in specifically designed exercise program in 16 week experimental period. All subjects participated in pre and post equilibrium sensory function tests of sensory organization and motor control test in dynamic posturography with EquiTest by NeuroCom. The present result revealed that there were statistically significant effects in equilibrium score of C1 and C6 in sensory organization test, visual ratio, and vestibular ratio. Therefore it was suggested that proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation training with band and swiss ball was very useful exercise program which could improve equilibrium sensory function in elderly woman. |
