The Effect of Sequence of Aerobic and Resistance Exercise on Hormones and Metabolism in Males.
ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to compare the difference in hormones and in metabolism according to the sequence of aerobic and resistance exercise in males. For this, 8 males participated and the exercises were composed of A(aerobic exercise : 65%VO2max running for 25min) and R(resistance exercise : 65%1-RM 7 kinds of exercise). All of subjects exercised AR(resistance exercise after aerobic exercise) and RA(aerobic exercise after resistance exercise) with term of 1 week. For the measure of hormones(growth hormone, cortisol, testosterone) and metabolic factors(FFA, glucose, lactate), bloods were sampled 5 times at before, post 1st exercise session, post 2nd exercise session, recovery 30min and 1 hour. The results were followed as blow : First, there was a no significant interaction in glucose level but just time main effects were found in both RA and AR (p<.05). Second, lactate and FFA had interaction by times and sequence, especially RA showed the higher tendency at recovery periods. Third, the levels of growth hormone and testosterone had significant interaction by times and sequence, but not cortisol. Additionally AR had higher testosterone tendency at post 2nd exercise session. These results indicated that AR may be more profitable for muscular hypertrophy, on the other hand, RA may be more effective for lipolysis or weight loss.
