Kim, D.S., Park, J.H., Nam, S.N., Kim, J.H. The effect of the intake of cucumis sativus on the hormone of water control during the prolonged exercise. Exercise Science, 16(3): 213-222, 2007. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of cucumis sativus fluid ingestion on the hormone of water control during maximum and prolonged exercise. Subjects(n=5), whose major is amateur athletics, were completed 3 times treadmill exercises by controlled water intake(W), low density cucumis sativus fluid intake(LOW), and high density cucumis sativus fluid intake(HIGH). The effects of W, LOW, and HIGH on renin and aldosterone were compared during 120minutes of treadmill exercise at 50%, 60% and all-out of VO2max. Subjects consumed W, LOW and HIGH by before-exercise and every 20minutes during the exercise. The intake volume of the fluid before exercise 500ml and 180ml per every 20minutes was calculated on the base of weight loss during 2hours treadmill exercise in the dehydration. Blood samples were obtained from forearm vein before exercise, 60minutes thereafter and immediately after 120minutes exercise, and the data from the three trials were compared using tow-way ANOVA, with significance at the .05 level. The results of this study were as follow; By W, LOW and HIGH of intake methods, aldosterone and K+ were significantly lower HIGH than in W and LOW. By W, LOW and HIGH of intake methods, renin activity, Na+ was not significantly different in each group. Futhermore, HIGH gives a little benefits to water control during prolonged and maximal exercise. |
