A study on the correlation between blood glucose and physical fitness in the over aged 60year diabetes patientsduring 12 weeks aerobic exercise
ABSTRACT
Kong, S.A., Han, S.W. A study on the correlation between blood glucose and physical fitness in the over aged 60year diabetes patients during 12 weeks aerobic exercise. Exercise Science, 14(3): 429-438, 2005. The blood glucose in type Ⅱ diabetes of elder patients was related to aerobic exercise, body composition and cardiovascular function. In this study, eleven old men and women of type II diabetes patients were tested. The training time was 12 weeks including Intensity(50~80% HRmax), Duration(12weeks) and Frequency(3 days a week). The results of this study were as follows: firstly, the weight and WHR were decreased by aerobic training during 12 weeks. However O2max was increased. Therefore flexibility, balance, agility, strength were improved. Secondly, the test values of FBS and PP2 were decreased by aerobic training during the time, hence, the TG and T-C were reduced. Thirdly, the fasting blood glucose was related to T-C(r=-.693), postprandial blood glucose and weight, waist and hip (r= .590, .729, .761). As a results, the aerobic exercise of the diabetes patients were very effective method to improve of the body composition, cardiovascular function and blood glucose.
Key words: type Ⅱ diabetes, cardiovasular function, blood glucose, aerobic training
