Comparison of responses in electromyograph between international and Korean folk Tug of War performance
ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to compare the EMG responses of IEMG, RMS and MPF during international and Korean folk Tug of War, and to analyse the physiological characteristics of Tug of War. The data were collected for 1 minute during competition on 8 muscles. The EMG variables including IEMG, RMS and MPF were analyzed. In the case of IEMG, there were no significant difference among time and groups on most of the muscles during both kinds of Tug of War. However, the IEMG of triceps and rectus femoris of the folk group were higher than that of international group. For RMS, there were no significant difference among time and groups on most of the muscles during Tug of War. The RMS of anterior tibialis revealed significant difference among time, and the RMS of rectus femoris of folk group were higher than that of international group. In addition, there were significant difference among times on 5 of 8 muscles on MPF, but there no fatigue phenomena. The MPF of flexor carpi ulnaris and anterior tibialis showed significant difference between international and folk group. This study conclude that the muscle activity level and fatigue were not significantly different on most of muscles during 1 minute competition and between international and folk competition groups. However, the muscle activity level of rectus femoris and triceps of folk groups higher than that of international groups.
Key words: tug of war, IEMG, muscle fatigue, MPF
