ABSTRACT |
The purpose of this study was to find the characteristics and to find the difference between adolescent idiopathic spinal scoliosis patients and normal students by comparing the difference in balance (stability), flexibility of trunk and muscle power of trunk flexion and extension. Twenty-five patients who had spinal scoliosis were selected and twenty-six with structurally normal spines were checked their flexibility of trunk, stability using Tetrax balance system, and muscle power or trunk flexor and extensor with CON-TREX biomechanical system. Mann-Whitney test was used to analyze the difference between these groups. It was shown that there was no remarkable difference in flexibility of trunk and also in balance ability between the two groups. But, we have discovered statistically remarkable difference in trunk extensor power at 120 °/sec. From this result, we have recognized the characteristics of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis patients, and we believe that these findings may lead us to treat the scoliosis patients in a way we have not tried before. |
