Effects of 10-week core rehabilitation training on flexibility, isokinetic muscular strength, driver shot performance, and pain in elite golfers with lower back pain.
ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of 10-week core rehabilitation training in elite golfers with Lower Back Pain(LBP). The subjects for this study were 13 male elite golfers(training group=7; control group=6). The change of flexibility, isokinetic trunk strength, driver shot performance, and pain were measured before and after training. A significant interactions between test occasions and groups were observed in trunk extension(p<.05) and shoulder rotation degree(p<.05) in flexibility, flexor strength(p<.01) and ipsilateral balance(p<.05) in trunk strength, driving carry distance(p<.05) and club head speed(p<.05) in driver shot performance, and pain changes(p<.01). In conclusion, improved core muscular strength, stability, and range of motion with decreased pain level seems to affect on swing system positively which eventually improve driver shot performance. Therefore, specific core rehabilitation training should be recruited to the golfers with LBP for better performance.
