Effect of long-term moderate exercise training on macrophage nitric oxide and cytokine production in mice. |

ABSTRACT |
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of long-term moderate exercise training on macrophage immunoresponse in mice. To accomplish the purpose of this study, mice were divided into two groups: a nonexercise group(control, n=10) and exercise group (exercise, n=10). The exercise applied was 5days/wk treadmill running (without electrical shock treatment) at 10-14m/min (60-76% of maximal oxygen uptake) on flat floor without slope for 16wk. Nitric oxide, IL-12, IFN-γ production, Phagocytosis were measured. The results were as followings; First, IL-12 production by LPS+IFN-γ stimulated peritoneal macrophages from the exercise group was significantly higher than that in the control group. Second, Phagocytic index was significantly higher than that in the control group. These result suggest that long-term moderate exercise training enhances the phagocytosis by improving the function of the peritoneal macrophages. In conclusion it seemed that long-term moderate exercise training could positive effect on macrophage immunoresponse by improving IL-12 production which helps Th1 cells. However, Nitric Oxide and IL-1ß, IFN-γ were not significantly changed by long-term moderate exercise training. |
