Effects of Exercise Intensity on Sciatic Function Index(SFI) and gastrocnemius muscle GLUT-4 Protein Expression After Sciatic Nerve Injury in Rats. Exercise Science, 14(3), 281-288, 2005. Physical activity can improve sensorimotor recovery and GLUT4 expression after peripheral nerve injury. Here, we describe effects of exercise intensity in glucose uptake facilitated by training. Using Western blot, we identified highly enhanced GLUT4 expression in sciatic nerve of rats with low-intensity treadmill training after crush injury compared with middle-intensity and high-intensity treadmill exercise group. Also we carried out foot-printing method to investigate motor functional recovery after sciatic nerve injury. Low-intensity treadmill exercise group promoted Sciatic Functional Index(SFI) values compared with middle-intensity and high-intensity treadmill exercise group. Thus, the present data provide a new evidence that low-intensity treadmill training enhanced GLUT4 expression and Sciatic Functional Index values after sciatic nerve injury in rats. |
