Effects of 24 months of exercise training on salivary secretory IgA in the elderly humans. Exercise Science
ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of 24 months of exercise training on salivary secretory IgA in the elderly humans. Twenty elderly humans (10 men, 10 women; mean (SD) age 65.8 (5.4) years) continuously participated exercise training for 90 minute/day, 2days/week (resistance/1day, endurance/1day), for 24 months. Saliva samples were obtained before and 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, and 24 months after exercise training, Saliva flow rate was significantly increased after 24 months of exercise training compared with before of exercise training (p<.05). Also, SIgA concentration and SIgA secretion rate were significantly increased after 12, 16, 20 and 24 months of exercise training compared with before of exercise training (p<.05). Moreover, SIgA concentration was significantly increased after 12, 16, 20 and 24 months of exercise training compared with after 4 months of exercise training (p<.05). Similarly, SIgA secretion rate was significantly increased after 16, 20 and 24 months of exercise training compared with after 4 months of exercise training (p<.05). In addition, SIgA concentration and SIgA secretion rate were significantly increased after 20 and 24 months of exercise training compared with after 12 months of exercise training (p<.05). These results demonstrated that continuous exercise training of 24 months in elderly humans continuously increase in Saliva flow rate, SIgA concentration and SIgA secretion rate. Therefore, continuous exercise training of 24 months contribute to the health maintenance and the aging prevention in elderly humans.
Key words: 24 months of exercise training, elderly humans, salivary secretory IgA
